Anatomy of a Bridal Gown

As you might have noticed, wedding dress shopping has its own language and it's really hard to decipher. You're standing at your first appointment in a whirlwind of gowns, and you suddenly realize you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into! In my store, I see it all the time, it's a very surreal moment for the bride... and that's when it's time to just sit down and have some chocolate, tea, water or some of the other complimentary goodies bridal salons have available.

Hopefully, I can help you decipher some of the crazy things we do in bridal-land, and avoid the stress that shopping inevitably brings.

The main components of the bridal gown are silhouette, neckline, fabric, and train. It is these 4 main components that come together to create a specific look, for instance: an open back halter, charmeuse sheath with a sweep train will create a very sexy look, or a soft sweetheart organza ballgown with a chapel will create a dramatic and romantic look, or a portrait duchesse silk trumpet gown will create a vintage old hollywood look. There is no right or wrong combination, it's just about what your style is!

Enjoy shopping, and if you have any comments or questions please email me at ibridalgown@gmail.com, I would love to hear from you!
